Our Board

Sonal Kadchha,Founder & Trustee
Sonal is the Founder of ETC. British born with Kenyan-Indian roots, Sonal read Chemical Engineering at Queens’ College Cambridge, where she graduated with a First Class Degree. She is currently Regional Head of Bancassurance for Africa at Prudential plc. In 2008, Sonal visited the Sekenani Primary Boarding School for the first time with Sir Richard Branson. She noticed how in need the local region was for educational resources. Following this, Sonal set up Educating The Children (ETC) with Sir Richard’s help. Sonal is part of the “Extra Mile 40”, a list of 40 people in finance, recognised by the eFinancial News, who go further for good causes. Sonal was also a finalist for Clarins “Woman of the year” 2017 which recognizes the UK’s most visionary charity pioneers.

Geraldine Feehally, Director of Education & Trustee
One of the first volunteers recruited was Geraldine Feehally – a school teacher with over 15 years of teaching experience in Leicestershire, UK. Whilst teaching at Sekenani Primary Boarding School, Geraldine identified that once children finished primary education, the barriers to carry on studying are very high due to lack of access to secondary schools. Following this, ETC’s aim has been extended to increase access to secondary education by building one of the first secondary schools in the Masai Mara.. 

Elizabeth Shaw 
Elizabeth read Theology & Religious Studies at Queens’ College, Cambridge. She then qualified as a solicitor specialising in family law at Payne Hicks Beach. In 2012, she became an editor at Practical Law Company, the legal know-how provider, now part of Thomson Reuters. Elizabeth visited Kenya for the first time in May 2013 and was blown away by its natural beauty and the warmth of the people she met.

Sapna Sisodia
Sapna Sisodia graduated from London College of Fashion with a Marketing and advertising BA Hons. After she started her own production company and raised finance for films.
Now she is an associate at Veventis a multi-disciplinary consultancy HQ in London where she specialises in advising Veventis’s clients who are global businesses She works with clients to identify investment opportunities and source business partners through their global network keeping in mind the political risk of various countries. 

Jit Mallik
Having been part of Africa for two decades, Jit has been instrumental in founding various associations for the benefit of society. Having been amongst the founding members for EICA and NICA and contributing to various charities.Promoting sports.
As a bachelor of electronic engineering and a master of business administration, Jit has served at various executive capacities on the African continent , with special emphasis on the financial and telecommunication sectors.
Jit brings his vast experience and good will to the enterprise.

Arjun Mallik
Arjun Mallik is the CEO of Prudential Uganda. He also serves as the Head of Strategy for Prudential Africa, responsible for pursuing acquisition opportunities across the continent. Arjun holds an MBA from Instituto de Empresa Business School, Spain and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Eckerd College, USA.

Rachel Hunter 
Rachel Hunter is an Associate Director at Deloitte in London, where she is a chartered tax advisor with over 10 years of experience in the corporate sector. Having read economics at university, Rachel also has interests in sustainable economic development, social enterprise and venture philanthropy in Africa. Rachel has spent time living in both Rwanda and Tanzania where she worked as the Head of Finance for the Clinton Hunter Development Initiative (‘CHDI’), which enables sustainable economic and social development in Africa. As such Rachel has experience collaborating with national and local government on self-sustaining projects with the ultimate aim of eradicating poverty.

Ace Majija
Achumile ‘ Ace’ Majija is the Chief Commercial Officer for Prudential Life Insurance in Ghana responsible for Bancassurance, Group Life Assurance and Broker Distribution. He has worked in South Africa, UK, Poland and Kenya. He enjoys motivating young people at Institutions of Higher Learning, High Schools, Youth Camps. He believes in giving back to the less fortunate, making a difference to change society and making it a better place for all. He is passionate about youth development, empowerment and social entrepreneurship; helping young people to unleash their potential. Some of his achievements include being named a Young Global Shaper by the WEF (World Economic Forum) and recognized by the South African Business Community in the UK as a Rising of the Year. He was announced as one of the 200 Young Influential South Africans by the Mail and Guardian and also received the Young Achiever Award from the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. He has also been named as one of the 13 Young African Economic and Business Leaders for 2013.Ace has a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics and Finance, Bachelor of Commerce Honours in Financial Analysis and Portfolio Management and an MBA degree.

Howard Lewis
Howard Lewis, cultured, creative, and curious, is founder and host of OFFLINE, a private network that draws a highly eclectic group of dinner guests, all ages, all backgrounds, boys and girls, to learn fresh ways of looking at the world and the art of sharing.
As a successful writer and raconteur, Howard is responsible for devising ETC communications strategy and, additionally, brings broad experience and connections in the business world. He is passionate about art, football, books, travel cinema, wit and wonder and, of course, ETC!

Aradhana Khowala
Aradhana Khowala is a global authority on the tourism and hospitality sector. Her consulting firm Aptamind Partners works closely with private businesses, leaders in governments and international organisations providing critical direction and insight in over 50 countries, spanning Europe, Asia, Middle East, and Africa.
Educated at Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne and Cornell, she also serves as special advisor to the Board of World Tourism Forum in Lucerne. ETC beautifully weaves together her passion for Africa with the purpose of educating the children – a cause very close to her heart. 

James Keal is an IT Consultant in the City of London. He was introduced to ETC at the beginning of his postgraduate studies and has been assisting the charity with website management and social media activities, as well as providing more general technical support ever since.

Andrew Gilbert worked for over 34 years within the UK Financial Services sector in the UK, specializing in Risk Management, Management Information and Regulatory Compliance. In 2013 he transferred this knowledge to the travel industry, taking a position with Virgin Holidays where he had the opportunity to visit Africa for the first time.

In May 2017 he relocated to Nairobi and following an introduction to ETC is now looking forward to working as the Kenya Representative, liaising between SGHS and the UK Trustees. 

Our Ambassadors

Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson is an British business magnate, investor and philanthropist. He founded the Virgin Group, which controls more than 400 companies.
To celebrate the opening of his airline Virgin Atlantic’s new route from London to Nairobi in 2008, he invited 10 valued customers on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Masai Mara. Whilst out there, Richard was impressed with Sonal’s vision for ETC and lent a helping hand in getting it started. He has been an Ambassador since 2008.

Dr Auma Obama was born in Kenya and grew up there. She studied in Germany and completed her master’s degree at the University of Heidelberg. The awards with which Dr. Auma Obama has been presented in recognition of her dedication to humanitarian efforts include the Prix Courage awarded by the German broadcaster ZDF in cooperation with Clarins, Paris (2014); the B.A.U.M. Award (2015); the World Human Rights Award (2015) by Look magazine; the Kiwanis Award (2016, Kiwanis Club Stuttgart); and the Deutscher Rednerpreis presented by the German Speakers Association (2015).
